SharePoint: Getting Started Guide
We offer Microsoft's Windows SharePoint Services v2.0 and v3.0, which allows organizations to quickly and easily create websites for Intranets and Extranets. SharePoint lets you setup websites to communicate with your coworkers, customers, and suppliers to share files, calendars, contacts, tasks, and any kind of list. The best part is that you don't need to be a technical person to build these websites - everything can be done via your web browser. However, advanced editing can be done using SharePoint Builder 2007 or FrontPage 2003.
How to Create a SharePoint Site:
- Log into the control panel and click on "SharePoint Sites".
- Click "Add SharePoint Site".
- Choose the plan that is best for you.
- Enter the SharePoint Site URL: This is the domain and subdomain for your site. NOTE: You must own the domain. E.g. intranet.yourdomain.com
- Select a Site Owner: Your users will be listed in the drop-down menu. The user selected will be set as the site administrator.
- Site Language: Currently the only language available is English.
- Click Create Site.
- Once your Control Panel information has been entered a subdomain
will need to be created in the DNS for your domain. Contact the
administrator who has control of the DNS for your domain and
ask them to create a CNAME that points the subdomain you created
in Step 4 to one of the domains listed below:
- For SharePoint Services v3.0: SP3.MyOutlookOnline.com
-
For SharePoint Services v2.0: SP.MyOutlookOnline.com
- From your web browser, go to the SharePoint URL you specified
above. You will be asked to login; use the username/password
of the Site Owner from step 5. NOTE: You must
setup the URL in the DNS for the login to work; you cannot login
to http://SP.MyOutlookOnline.com or http://SP3.MyOutlookOnline.com.
- For testing purposes, you can add a new line in your hosts
file:
- For SharePoint Services v3.0: 64.95.72.198 Intranet.YourDomain.com
- For SharePoint Services v2.0: 64.95.72.194 Intranet.YourDomain.com
You can now start customizing your SharePoint site. Click on "Site Settings" to begin.
- Click on "Manage users" to add more users to this
SharePoint site. If you want to give individuals who don't have
an Exchange mailbox, such as external employees, customers, partners,
vendors or consultants, access to the SharePoint website, you
will need to first add them as a user via the Exchange Control
Panel.
- Click on "Manage sites and workspaces" to add sub-sites,
such as a site for marketing.
- If you are creating Document Libraries in your SharePoint site, please ensure that you have enabled the Document Version Retention.
