Setup VPN Access

If you are running any of the following Outlook/OS combinations you will need a VPN connection:

A VPN connection will also enable you to connect to the Exchange servers if your ISP is blocking port 135. For example, if you use Comcast Broadband, you must use a VPN to connect to your hosted Exchange mailbox.

Setup for Outlook Over VPN Access

  1. Login to the Control Panel and click Manage Users. From the drop-down menu for each user select "Advanced Settings" and check the box for "VPN Access Enabled".
  2. Go to Start > Control Panel and select “Network and Dial-up Connections.”
  3. If you see a "Welcome" window click Next.
  4. On the "Network Connection Type" window select "Connect to the network at my workplace"; click Next.
  5. On the "Network Connection" window,select "Virtual Private Network connection"; click Next.
  6. On the "Connection Name" window type "123Together VPN"; click Next.
  7. On the "Public Network" window select "Do not dial the initial connection"; click Next. NOTE: You may not be presented with this window if you do not have any dial-up connections defined already. Go to the next step if you do not see this window.
  8. On the "VPN Server Selection" window type "VPN.123TOGETHER.COM"; click Next.
  9. On the "Completing the New Connection Wizard" window check "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop" and click on "Finish".
  10. Minimize all your open windows. Right click on the icon for "123Together VPN" and click Properties.
  11. Click the "Networking" Tab. Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.
  12. In the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties" window click Advanced.
  13. In the "Advanced TCP/IP Settings" window, under the "General" tab, uncheck the box for "Use default gateway on remote network".
  14. Click OK; click OK again.
  15. You are now ready to connect. Go back to your desktop and double-click on "123Together VPN". On the "Connect to 123Together VPN" window, it will ask for user name, password and domain name. You can find this information in your Welcome email or by logging into the Control Panel and going to Help > Setup Info.

Launching Outlook Over VPN

Once set up, you must follow this procedure every time you start Outlook:

  1. Launch the VPN Connection and make sure that you are connected. Once connected the icon will display in the taskbar.

 

Setting Up a MAPI Connection

  1. After you’ve launched your VPN connection you must also setup a MAPI connection:
  2. Go to Start > Control Panel and click on the Mail icon.
  3. Click Show profiles.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Enter a Profile Name; click OK.
  6. Select “Add a new e-mail account”; click Next.
  7. Select “Microsoft Exchange Server” click Next.
  8. Enter your server name (ie mail093).
  9. Enter your User Name; click Check Name.
  10. You will be prompted for your login credentials.
  11. Click Next; click Finish.

You will now be able to use Outlook.
